Haverhill Commuter Rail Announces Weekend Service Changes Through December

Haverhill area commuter rail riders better pack their patience starting Sept. 23, as the MBTA has announced plans to scrap weekend service through December for train safety upgrades.

In order to install a new train safety control system on the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line, the MBTA has issued a mandatory shut down order for weekend service starting on Saturday, Sept. 23. Weekday service will not be impacted.

Over the next two months, shuttle buses will transport Saturday and Sunday commuters from the Haverhill Line to Oak Grove in Malden.

The planned safety upgrade is necessary to meet deadlines established by the Federal Railroad Administration.
