Dorrit T. Maurice, 94, Secretary for Towle Manufacturing, Bristol Rubber

Dorrit T. Maurice, 94, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, peacefully with her family by her side after a period of failing health.

Maurice was born in Lincoln, Jan. 14, 1923, daughter of Earl MacLeod and Ethel (Bere) MacLeod.

A member of the greatest generation, Maurice grew up in the rural atmosphere of Rowley. She graduated from Ipswich High School, class of 1940. She was employed as a secretary for Towle Manufacturing and Bristol Rubber Company for many years.

She married her husband Edmond in February of 1942. During World War II, they lived in Florida where Edmond worked in U.S. Naval Shipyards. After moving back to Haverhill, she assisted her husband with their business, Maurice Construction Company.

Maurice and Edmond had five children together. Of Maurice’s many talents, she was well-known for cooking, sewing, her eye for antiques, decorating and her fashion sense. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Haverhill for more than 60 years. She was a member and past president of St. Margaret’s Guild. She was also a member of Haverhill City Club for many years. She also enjoyed traveling, reading and discussing current events.

Maurice leaves her children Edmond Maurice and wife Sandra of Deland, Fla., David Maurice and wife Diane of Thornville, Ohio, Daniel Maurice and wife Pamela of Hampstead, N.H., Nancy Guselli and husband Gene of Gloucester, and John Maurice and wife Grace of Derry, N.H.; grandchildren, Vanessa Maurice, Alex and Elizabeth Maurice, Elissa (Maurice) Biery, Jacqueline Guselli, and Stephen and Lauren Maurice; great grandchildren, Michael and Thomas Biery; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edmond, brothers Walter Mitchell and Earl MacLeod and daughter in law, Leslie Maurice.

The family extends its gratitude to the Residence at Salem Woods and Compassus Hospice.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours Thursday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. The funeral takes place at the funeral home Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
