Sheriff to Lead Ceremony Friday Honoring POWs, Those Missing in Action

A ceremony honoring and remembering prisoners of war and those missing in action takes place Friday morning at the Vietnam War Veterans of Massachusetts Missing in Action Memorial in Middleton.

Essex County Sheriff Kevin F. Coppinger is leading the memorial service at 10 a.m., at the state’s only monument recognizing those Vietnam War soldiers recorded as missing in action. The monument is on the grounds of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department headquarters, 20 Manning Ave., Middleton.

Others participating are Massachusetts Secretary of Veterans’ Services Francisco A. Ureña; Timothy Sullivan, a Vietnam veteran and former POW; U.S.S Constitution Color Guard; Essex County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard; and the Irish-American Police Officers Association Pipe and Drum Band.

The Middleton monument was unveiled March 29, 1994.
