Eva Montibello, the candidate for state representative who was disqualified this week from appearing on the ballot, said Thursday she doesn’t need “to be an elected official to make a difference.”
In a statement to supporters on social media, Montibello accepted blame for not filling in the community name on two of her signature sheets.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share that I did not make the ballot for state representative for the Third Essex District for Haverhill,” Montibello wrote. She thanked those who supported her, signed her nomination papers or offered to volunteer.
“The good thing. I don’t have to be an elected official to make a difference (and neither do you)!” She wrote. “I have a few projects that I’ve been thinking about for years and will be taking on in our community to strive for creating positive impact in areas that need help.”
The disqualification means City Councilor Andy Vargas and School Committeeman Paul A. Magliocchetti will face off in the Democratic primary Tuesday, Oct. 10. The winner of the match will vie against School Committeeman Shaun P. Toohey, a Republican, during the final election Tuesday, Nov. 7.
