Expect I-93 Delays Starting Sunday for Methuen Rotary Work

Expect delays overnight beginning Sunday along Interstate 93 at the Methuen Rotary as crews prepare the road for paving and erect guardrails.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials said the overnight, temporary lane and off-ramp closures on I-93 north and south, near exit 46, begin Sunday, Sept. 10, and run through early morning Friday, Sept. 15. Work is part of a $66.4 million project to replace the former rotary with a partial cloverleaf interchange to improve safety and reduce congestion.

“These off-peak impacts will allow crews to safely and effectively conduct construction operations including roadway milling, placement of guardrail and temporary pavement markings,” according to a statement. Pavement milling requires temporary, short-term closures of the I-93 north and southbound off-ramps at times.

Single lane closures on I-93 north and south are from 8 to 10 p.m., while double lane closures take place from 10 p.m. through 5 a.m.
