Methuen Police identified the 11-year-old girl who was killed by a hit and run driver Thursday night as Jaydee Soto of Methuen.

She was struck in Methuen by a hit and run driver at 9:45 p.m., Thursday night. She was crossing Broadway near Kirk Street in Methuen with a parent when a vehicle, traveling at a very high rate of speed, struck her, Methuen Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon said in a statement. The driver fled from the scene down Broadway into Lawrence.

“This was a cowardly and horrendous act that occurred on our streets tonight, and we will stop at nothing to identify and locate the driver,” Solomon said. A preliminary investigation suggests the driver made no attempt to stop or slow down. CPR was administered at the scene and the girl was taken to Lawrence General Hospital.

Police are looking for a small, dark colored car, possibly a Honda or an Acura. The vehicle may have a fog light out and possibly front headlight and directional damage.

Those with information are asked to contact Methuen Police at 978-983-8698.

To the heartless driver of the vehicle Turn yourself in, you can run but you can’t hide and the police will find you.Have some compassion for the family, eventually you will get caught.Do the right thing Own up to it!!

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with this poor family who have lost their child to a low-life coward.

There is a special level of hell for people who hurt children in any way – and, in time, the person who did this will know the pain of that place.
