Marguerite “Margo” Gillespie Gilmore, 79, Worked at Lawrence General

Marguerite “Margo” Gillespie Gilmore, 79, of Bradford, spouse of 58 years to William A. Gilmore, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sept. 3, after a courageous three year battle with metastatic cancer.

Gilmore was born June 23, in Andover, to parents Augustina and Donald Gillespie. She was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Lawrence and was a stay at home mother before being employed by Lawrence General Hospital.  In addition to being a long time resident of Bradford, she and her husband enjoyed 18 winters in Seminole, Fla.

Gilmore had three children, attorney Karen M. Dill of Haverhill, Joanne C. Gilmore of Plaistow, N.H., and attorney William A. Gilmore Jr and wife, Kim Williams Gilmore of Haverhill. She also had four grandchildren, John P. Dill Jr, Kristine M. Dill, Riley G. Gilmore and William A. Gilmore III. She was predeceased by her brother Jackie Gillespie.

She had a green thumb and was a member of area garden clubs. Gilmore was involved in the Groveland Senior Center, enjoyed fine dining and bargain hunting, antiquing and collecting fine china. She shared her passion for theatre and the arts with her family, who frequently attended musicals with her. She was a longtime member of the Haverhill YMCA pool.

The family thanks those who assisted in her care, especially her friend Joan Williams who drove her to many appointments. Gilmore summed up her life best: “Please don’t be sad, I’ve had a great life and a great family.”

In accordance with her wishes, there will be a private burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover and a memorial Mass will be held Thanksgiving weekend.
