Olga Wekwert Munroe, 95, Formerly of Haverhill and Groveland

Olga Wekwert Munroe, 95, of Manchester, N.H., formerly of Haverhill and Groveland, died peacefully Aug. 31, in Manchester, N.H., after a period of failing health.

Munroe was born in Haverhill March 12, 1922, daughter of the late Carl and Mary Wekwert. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1939, where she met the love of her life, Howard W. Munroe Jr.  They were married on March 20, 1943 in Vernon, Texas where Howard was stationed before leaving for England where he was a B17 gunner and flight engineer. She was also a graduate of the McIntosh School of Business.

After the war, they settled in Groveland where they bought a “fixer-upper” on Gardner Street that they restored and where they raised their children Carl and Jane. She was a long-time member of the Groveland Congregational Church and the Groveland Garden Club and served as their secretary for many years.  Munroe had many interests in life including folk art painting, stenciling, knitting and sewing.
She and her husband enjoyed their time with family at their cottage on Little Ossipee Lake in Waterboro, Maine. After Howard retired, they also enjoyed local and international travel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Munroe, and their son Carl H. Munroe. She is survived by her sister, Anne Wekwert; daughter, Jane Munroe Lahaye and her husband William Lahaye of Candia N.H.; daughter-in-law Cheryl Munroe of Gilsum N.H.; grandchildren, Craig P. Munroe of Surry, N.H., Christopher S. Munroe of Gilsum N.H., Caryn Benevento-Munroe of Jericho, Vt., and seven great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland.
