Haverhill High School Chorus members Emily Forisso and Chloe Reynolds performed “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” during WHAV’s inaugural ceremonies. Middle schoolers can get an early start by participating in the Chorus Loop program at the high school.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Haverhill’s four middle schools can apply for the Chorus Loop program at Haverhill HIgh School through their school’s Guidance office. Students attend chorus at HHS in the morning, then are bused to their schools in time to start the day. Middle-schoolers who participate can earn high school credit.

Normally, the first day of school is all about the kids. But at Silver Hill School in Haverhill, the PTO made it a point to celebrate the teachers’ return, too. The parents group provided fun treats for the staff, and set up a brightly decorated table with balloons, doughnuts, juice and coffee.

Methuen District Fine Arts Director Cheryl Mancini will meet with parents of seventh- and eighth-grade students on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Timony School auditorium. She will discuss and answer questions about fine arts course offerings. Timony School is at 45 Pleasant View St.

Timberlane Superintendent Dr. Earl Metzler invites parents to tour the district’s school buildings to see updates and improvements made over the summer. Tours begin Thursday, Sept. 14, at the High School, PAC and Middle School in Plaistow; Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Atkinson Academy and Pollard School in Plaistow; and Thursday, Sept. 28 at Danville Elementary, the Learning Center at Sandown Central and Sandown North Elementary. Tours begin promptly at 6 p.m. at the first location listed on each day. Each tour takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

Haverhill students will be dismissed after a half-day on Friday, Sept. 1; kindergartners begin school on Sept. 5. Haverhill students in grades 1 through 12 attend for a half-day on Friday, Sept. 1, and enjoy a day off for Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4. Methuen and Timberlane students have a four-day break for Labor Day, with no school on Sept. 1 and 4.

Remaining regional first days are:

Central Catholic High School: Sept. 7
