A 20-year-old Haverhill man was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly breaking into Groveland and Boxford homes, leading police on a chase in one stolen car and finally crashing a second stolen car into a tractor trailer in Haverhill.

Carson S. Hamilton was charged with burglary, larceny, receiving stolen property, failure to stop, driving a motor vehicle without authority, driving after license suspension, reckless driving to endanger and speeding, Groveland Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen said Friday.

Groveland Police Department received a report of a man inside a home at 1:30 a.m., on Parker Road. A resident said a purse was stolen by a white man in a black hooded sweatshirt who broke in through a back, sliding door. A man, fitting the description, was seen later with three other men on Pinewood Lane. When spotted by Officer Adam Sanborn, the men fled on foot. The man later said to be Carson ran down Clark Road. Soon after, he noticed a blue SUV with New Hampshire plates speeding along Parker Road. The SUV, later determined to be stolen, sped through a traffic stop on Main Street, heading toward Haverhill. Boxford and State Police and an Amesbury Police K-9 unit joined in after the vehicle stopped on Lily Pond Road in Boxford.

Hamilton was caught by the K-9 unit after he allegedly stole another car in Haverhill and crashed into a tractor trailer on route 125 in Haverhill. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and then arrested by Haverhill Police.

He is to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court on charges from Groveland, Boxford and Haverhill.
