Robert S. Ryan, 60, Haverhill Scoutmaster

Robert S. Ryan, 60, passed away Friday, Aug. 18,  at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill, MA.

He was born Sept. 15, 1956 in Ocala, Fla., son of the late William S. and Linda (Garrison) Ryan. Ryan grew up in Florida and is a graduate of Marion High School. He was employed with Summit Place, Methuen, as a maintenance supervisor before retirement. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America and was a scoutmaster for Haverhill Troop 5. He was an active member of the Haverhill Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed time outdoors. Ryan was an avid hunter, fisherman and also added letter boxing and raising pigeons to his many hobbies.

Ryan is survived by his wife of more than 36 years, Mary Jane (VanKavelaar) Ryan of Haverhill; son, Andrew J. Ryan of Haverhill; brother, Chris Ryan and wife Kelli of Douglassville, Ga.; half-brother, Rick Rodia and wife Cynthia of Ocklawaha, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill. A memorial service takes place at noon at the funeral home immediately following calling hours. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Robert’s memory be made to The American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite # 900 Arlington, VA 22202.
