Celeste ‘Sally’ Schena, 89, Retired from New England Telephone

Celeste “Sally” Schena, 89, of Salem, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, died Friday, Aug. 18, at the Residence at Salem Woods with her family by her side.

Schena was born July 10, 1928, in Haverhill, to Fred and Theresa (Comeau) McLaughlin. She was educated at St. James Grammar School and St. James High School in Haverhill and was employed at New England Telephone Company, retiring after 25 years of service in 1980.

She met the love of her life, Frank Schena, at Hampton Beach. He worked for Western Electric and retired in 1978. They were married for 67 years until his passing in 2015. They raised three children while residing on Muriel Terrace in Bradford. After retirement, the Schenas shared and enjoyed winters on the Gulf Coast of Florida where the family vacationed with them for many years. They also enjoyed traveling with their family to various destinations such as Cape Code, Lake George, Niagara Falls, New York World’s Fair, White Mountains and the New England seacoast. Their 60th wedding anniversary was shared by family members on a Bermuda boat cruise.

Her family extends its gratitude to Greystone Farm Senior Living and The Residence at Salem Woods, both in Salem, N.H., and Hospice Care.

She leaves her children, Paula Cox and husband David of Groveland, Maurice and husband Daniel of Hampstead, N.H., and Mark Schena and wife Jennifer of Salem, N.H.; four grandchildren, Monica Barbieri, Elissa Biery, Andrew Cox and Joseph Schena; five great-grandchildren, Madison and Mason Barbieri, Michael and Thomas Biery, and Jacob Cox; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 23, in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main St., Bradford at 10 a.m. Burial follows in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. Arrangements by Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Bradford.
