The son appeared to suffer a non-life-threatening wound, according to Atkinson Police. He was treated by Atkinson Fire and Rescue at the 13 Newbury Drive home and taken to a local hospital. Police said they arrived at the home just after 3 p.m. after receiving a report “a man had shot his son,” according to a statement.

“It was learned that a domestic dispute had taken place, which escalated in which the suspect fired a shot from a handgun, striking the victim in the abdomen,” the police statement read.

Upon arrival, the statement said, police officers secured the scene, made sure it was safe and asked Atkinson Fire and Rescue to treat the victim.

LaMonica refused the services of a bail commissioner and was jailed at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections pending arraignment at Plaistow District Court.
