Empty Cash Drawer Thwarts Attempted Methuen Bank Robbery

Methuen Police are looking for an attempted bank robber, thwarted by a teller who showed her cash drawer was empty.

Police said a man approached a teller just before 12:30, Friday afternoon, at People’s United Bank located at 9 Jackson St.

“The suspect showed the teller a note and demanded money from the employee. The suspect stated he had a firearm (no firearm was shown). The cashier showed the suspect an empty drawer and then the suspect fled the bank on foot with no money,” Methuen Police said in a statement.

He was described as a light skinned Hispanic male, dark handle bar mustache, dark hair, approximately 40 to 50 years old, five feet, six inches tall and thin build. He was wearing glasses, dark jeans, white button down (checkered blue pattern) short sleeve shirt, dark baseball hat and sneakers.

The man was last seen running on foot by Korbani’s Bakery, Conduit Street, heading toward Lawrence.
