Population Growth Creates Need for Additional 4th-Grade Class at Golden Hill

Throughout the month of August, WHAV provides a daily report counting down to the first day of school in Greater Haverhill.

Golden Hill Elementary School added a fourth-grade classroom for the 2017-2018 school year.

“This new classroom will better serve the growing enrollment of our school,” said Principal Bruce Michitson.

Teacher Diana Farrell will take over the new classroom. She is a former longterm substitute for first grade and special education provider for fourth grade. Students who are assigned to Room 304 will be in Farrell’s class.

“Mrs Farrell is a highly professional, energetic, qualified educator,” Michitson said.

School hours will change this year at Bradford Elementary (pictured). Principal Louise Perry notified parents this week that start and end times will change to align with other elementary schools in the city. School hours will be 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Students may arrive between 8:40 and 9 a.m.

Perry said parents will receive information about classroom assignments and other back-to-school information later this month.

The only elementary school students in Haverhill who will follow a different schedule are those who attend the lower school at Hunking. All grades at Hunking will start the day at 8:30 a.m. and dismissal is at 2:45.

Pentucket Lake Elementary School is looking for chess players. Volunteers are needed to engage PLS fourth-graders in chess matches during their weekly library time, from 12:20 to 1 p.m. For information, contact librarian Amie Aloisi.

Members of the Timberlane Regional High School Class of 2018 who wish to drive their cars to school are required to buy a parking pass before the start of the school year. Students will sign up for parking passes over the course of three days, based on the first letter of their last names.

Students with last names starting with A through G should visit the high school on Aug. 22, H through M on Aug. 23 and N through Z on Aug. 24. Hours on all three days are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2:30 p.m. In order to register for parking permits, students must bring an original, valid drivers license; original car registration; copy of insurance card and $25 registration fee.

Senior dues are due for Timberlane high school students. The $55 fee will increase to $65 if not paid by mid-January. Senior dues help to defray the cost of senior activities, the senior T-shirt, senior breakfast, prom, cruise, the class gift and future Class of 2018 reunions. Those who fail to pay dues may not participate in these activities. Payment should be given to Mrs. Vasta in the assistant principal’s office. Payment options are available upon request.

Haverhill Public Schools open their doors to students in grades 1 through 12 on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Kindergarten begins Sept. 5. All Haverhill students will attend for a half-day on Friday, Sept. 1, and enjoy a day off for Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4.

Regional first days are:

Pentucket: Aug. 31

Timberlane: Sept. 5

Methuen: Aug. 29
