Preschool, Kindergarten Students Get Reprieve Until After Labor Day

Throughout the month of August, WHAV provides a daily report counting down to the first day of school in Greater Haverhill.

The youngest students in Haverhill Public Schools, preschoolers and kindergartners, will enjoy a few extra days of summer before reporting for class on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

The transportation department will send letters by the third week of August to parents of all kindergarten students who qualify for a bus. A notice will also be sent in August with the date of each child’s kindergarten screening. Pre-screening appointments will be scheduled on Aug. 29, 30 or 31.

At Moody Preschool (pictured) on Margin Street, preschool programs run for a half-day, with morning and afternoon sessions. The school is open from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Parents can take a sneak peek at their little ones’ classes and meet their teachers at an open house on Thursday, Aug. 31. Parents of morning-session students will attend from 10 to 11 a.m. and parents of students in the afternoon session will be welcome from 1 to 2 p.m.

Bartlett School on Washington Street, an annex of the Albert B. Consentino School, is attended by kindergartners as well as first- and second-graders. There will be an open house for parents on Monday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Crowell School Kindergarten, at 26 Belmont Ave., also plans an open house on Aug. 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Families will be able to visit their children’s classrooms and meet their teachers. For a list of suggested supplies, visit the school’s website.

Students who have signed up for the middle school language program at Haverhill High School are invited to an orientation on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Haverhill High School auditorium. This popular program provides early foreign language instruction to interested students in the city’s four middle schools, led by HHS students enrolled in advanced foreign language study.

Bradford Christian Academy, a private non-denominational Christian school serving students in grades 1 through 12, will celebrate the coming school year with a Welcome Back Picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cedardale Groveland Outing Center. The school is divided between two campuses, at 97 Oxford St. for the lower school at 514 Main St. for the high school program.

Before the start of school in Methuen, the school department is looking for potential employees to fill positions in all school buildings, such as cafeteria monitors, substitute teachers and nurses, and crossing guards. Interested candidates are invited to a job fair on Thursday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the district’s central administration building, 10 Ditson Place. Haverhill Public Schools open their doors to students in grades 1 through 12 on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Kindergarten begins Sept. 5. All Haverhill students will attend for a half-day on Friday, Sept. 1, and enjoy a day off for Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4.
