Editor’s Note: WHAV has learned the race has been postponed.

Organizers released the following statement:

We are dedicated to providing the highest quality and safest race possible for both our riders and our spectators. Because of this, we have decided to postpone the debut of Shoe City Pro Circuit until 2018. The extra time will ensure that all pieces are in place to guarantee the very best event we can be. We are disappointed that we aren’t able to tackle these turns in 2017, but we are fully dedicated to making sure that we give everybody a stellar experience this time next year.

To those who have already registered, you will be contacted regarding refunds, etc. shortly. We hope that you will join us next year. On the upside, now you have more time to prepare those legs! In the meantime, stay rubber side down.

Riders get ready: Downtown Haverhill is set to host the 2017 Shoe City Pro Circuit Bicycle race on Sunday, Aug. 27. Casual and elite bicyclists are set to gather for the city’s criterium race that will award cash prizes to top finishers.

Racers can take advantage of a discounted entry fee of $25 before Aug. 15. Registrations processed after that date will cost $35. The race’s registration closes on Aug. 25. Cyclists can opt into categories including Elite Men/Women, Masters 45+ Men, Cat 3/4/5 Women, Cat 3 Men and Cat 4/5 Men.

On race day, participants will check in near the course’s Start/Finish line at Haverhill Bank (180 Merrimack St.). Racers will roll out and turn left on How Street climbing the course’s only hill. The route then turns left on Bailey Boulevard and left on Emerson Street. The course winds through a short separated, two-way at Washington Square and turns right up Essex Street and left Wingate Street. At the end of Wingate Street, racers turn left through Railroad Square and left again onto Washington Street. The course runs the length of the restaurant district on Washington Street towards the Start/Finish Line at Haverhill Bank (Washington Street becomes Merrimack Street as it passes through Washington Square).

Registration is available at BikeReg.com by searching “Shoe City Pro Circuit,” with additional race details on Facebook.
