Clock Ticking Down for HHS, Whittier Fall Athletes to Sign Up, Pay Fees

Throughout the month of August, WHAV provides a daily report counting down to the first day of school in Greater Haverhill.

Thinking about playing a fall sport at Haverhill High School this year? It’s decision time. The deadline to turn in all forms and user fees is Friday, Aug. 11. The participation fee is $100. All student-athletes must complete the application packet and provide proof of a sports physical.

The first day for Whittier Wildcats football and cheerleading is Friday, Aug. 18. Student-athletes will meet at 8 a.m. in the cafe. Those who haven’t done so already need to bring proof that they have had a sports physical.

First day for Whittier’s other fall sports is Thursday, Aug. 24 beginning at 8 a.m. in the cafe. Proof of physical is required.

Whittier student-athletes are encouraged to register online. Anyone who has not registered by the first day will not be able to participate.

Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School serves students from Haverhill and 10 area communities.

Twenty-two students from Droissig, Germany, will spend a month at Timberlane Regional High School, beginning on Sept. 13. Organizers of the program are looking for 11 host families for six boys and five girls. Eleven students already have been placed. Because the German students will shadow Timberlane High Schoolers during their stay, high school host families will be given preference.

The students, who speak English fluently, will be accompanied by several teachers. While they are here, they will participate in daily life with their host families. Timberlane High School student hosts will have the chance to visit their German counterparts’ homes next June.

Timberlane Regional Middle School parents may be wondering what they’re supposed to buy to fill their kids’ backpacks. TRMS has posted supply lists by team on its website.

Parents of new Methuen kindergartners are invited to bring their young students to the fourth Annual Kick-Off to Kindergarten on Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at Nevins Library at 305 Broadway. Games, activities and a story walk are planned. There may even be some prizes given out. Space is limited, so parents are asked to register online with the library.

Haverhill Public Schools open their doors to students in grades 1 through 12 on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Kindergarten begins Sept. 5. All Haverhill students will attend for a half-day on Friday, Sept. 1, and enjoy a day off for Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4.

Regional first days are:

Pentucket: Aug. 31
