Nicki (Frangoulis) Kafides, 67, Died in Car Accident

Nicki (Frangoulis) Kafides, 67, of Haverhill, passed away Friday, July 28, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Kafides was born in Kalloni, Island of Lesvos, Greece Sept. 30, 1949. Daughter of the late Pantelis and Maria (Kalogerou) Frangoulis, she came to the United States with her family when she was six years old and was raised in the Hyde Park section of Boston. After graduating from high school, she returned to Greece for several years and married George Kafides, then settling in Haverhill. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage. She continued her education, graduating from college while working as a software engineer until her recent retirement.

She enjoyed life, Greek Orthodox faith, family and friends. She and her husband George were caregivers for her mother, Maria, for many years until her passing several months ago.

In addition to her husband George, Kafides leaves cherished friends Koula and Panos Vasilopoulos, Kiki and George Georgiadis of Haverhill, and many other caring friends; two nephews in Greece; and a sister- in-law.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Haverhill, from 4 to 7 p.m. Service begins Wednesday in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Funeral Service at Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter St., Haverhill, at 11 a.m. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made in her name to the Greek School of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church, 154 Winter Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
