Charles H. Hill, 78, Former Journeyman Printer, Haverhill Gazette

Charles H. Hill, 78, formerly of Georgetown, died Tuesday, July 25, at Lakeview House Nursing Home, Haverhill.

He was born in Haverhill, April 14, 1939, son of the late Charles E. and Bertha M. (Lindsay) Hill. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Hill graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1957. While growing up he worked on the family farm, Hill Farm Dairy, formerly on Kenoza Street, Haverhill. He served his apprenticeship at the Haverhill Gazette where he was employed as a journeyman printer for more than 20 years. Hill was also employed as a security guard at Northern Essex Community College and Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School until his retirement in 2001.

A member of the Merrimack Valley Umpires Association and the Greater Haverhill Softball Association, he umpired baseball and softball games throughout the Merrimack Valley, including semi-pro games. For more than 20 years he traveled to Florida for spring training.

Besides his parents, Hill was predeceased by his brother, Arthur E. Hill and his aunt, Kaye Lindsay. His survivors include several friends including Lynne Makin-Torres of Lawrence.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Graveside Service Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1, at 1:30, in Walnut Cemetery, Kenoza Street, Haverhill. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Haverhill and Bradford.
