Groveland Police Seek Info. on Rash of Thefts From Cars

Groveland Police area again warning residents to lockup car after receiving six reports Sunday of thefts from cars.

Groveland Police Chief Jeffrey T. Gillen issued the alert Monday after looking at reports of overnight break-ins. He also asked for the public’s help in solving the crimes.

“In all six cases, the vehicles had been left unlocked,” Gillen said. “Groveland is a very safe community, but we cannot allow that to lull us into ignoring basic safety and security guidelines,” the chief added.

This past January, Groveland police reported a similar string of thefts from cars, including a secured lock box containing a handgun. In that case, police arrested three men from Gloucester and Essex. Fifteen breaks were reported in May, resulting in the arrest of two Haverhill teenagers.

Anyone with information on Sunday’s thefts are asked to call the Groveland Police Department at 978-521-1212.
