Groveland Expects Traffic Delays as Route 97 Repaving Begins

If your commute along route 97 today through Groveland is a bit slow, it is due to preparations for state repaving from Parker Road to the intersection of Salem and School Streets.

Grinding and grading of the southbound lane of route 97 means traffic is being reduced to one lane during the week. Heavy traffic delays and an uneven driving surface is expected, said Groveland Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen.

“We understand that this construction is an inconvenience to residents and community members who travel along Route 97 on a regular basis,” the chief said.

He asks motorists to find alternate routes, but warns police are watching for speeders on side roads. Residents have already complained about people speeding on King Street, Seven Star Road, Rollins Street and Washington Street.

Once southbound lanes are prepared, crews will move to the northbound lane.

Next week, the base coat of pavement will be applied over the course of two days.
