Bruno J. Sarratora, 97, WWII Veteran, Worked at Mark’s Deli

Bruno_SarratoraBruno J. Sarratora, 97, of Haverhill, died Monday, July 17, at Baker-Katz Nursing Home, Haverhill.

He was born in Haverhill, Feb. 8, 1920, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Nisdeo) Sarratora.

From 1942 to 1945 he served in the United States Army as an MP and attained the rank of corporal.  Sarratora earned a Good Conduct Medal, ETO Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and ATO Campaign Ribbon. Upon being honorably discharged he was employed in local shoe shops for several years until his retirement. Following retirement he worked at various convenience stores and also Mark’s Deli, Haverhill. He thoroughly enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Foxwoods, Disney World, going out to eat and spending time with the dogs Ricky and Lucy.

He was the husband of the late Phelena M. (Defosses) Sarratora who died in 2009 and brother of the late John, Columbo and Thomas Sarratora, Anna Pappavasil and Josephine O’Neil.

His survivors include a daughter, Theresa J. Sarratora of Haverhill; son, Joseph D. Sarratora and his wife Patricia of Kingston, N.H.; sister; Elizabeth Torossian of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation Tuesday morning, July 25, from 10 to 11 at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral service at 11:15 at the funeral home. Burial is in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Baker-Katz Nursing Home, 194 Boardman St., Haverhill, MA 01830 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
