Overnight Roadwork to Cause I-93, Route 213 Detours in Methuen

Overnight roadwork is set to take place next week, causing temporary closures of the I-93 southbound Exit 48 off-ramp (towards Route 213 eastbound) and Route 213 westbound in Methuen, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday.

The paving operation will take place during the off-peak hours of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. from Sunday evening, July 16 to Friday morning, July 21. All lanes of travel on I-93 will be maintained during the roadwork window.

Local detours will be clearly marked with police detail officers in place along the work route. Mass DOT cautions drivers of the following detour routes:

  • The detour on Route 213 westbound will direct traffic to Exit 2 (Route 28) southbound along a signed detour route to the Pelham Street/I-93 interchange.
  • The detour on I-93 southbound at Exit 48 will direct traffic seeking to exit the highway to proceed to the next exit (Pelham Street) to exit and then reenter I-93 northbound and take the exit to Route 213 eastbound.
