Michael G. McDonald, 62, Retired Newbury Fire Chief

Michael G. McDonald, a longtime resident of Newbury, passed away on Thursday afternoon, June 29, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 20 years, Brenda (Janvrin) McDonald.

Born in Haverhill, October 2, 1954, McDonald was one of four children of the late John J. and Marjorie E. (Tatro) McDonald. He graduated from both Essex Agricultural Technical School and Northern Essex Community College.

McDonald ran his own company MGM Carpenter/Builder and was also a retired Fire Chief with the Town of Newbury.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer McDonald; his son Michael McDonald, Jr.; three grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Shane Grant, Brock McDonald and Emma Grant; brother John McDonald; two sisters, Patricia Farley and Jane Ray; mother-in-law Barbara Janvrin; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. Burial will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Michael G. McDonald to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
