Basil R. “Bob” Zingali, 87, Decorated Navy Officer, MIT Graduate

bob_zingaliBasil R. “Bob” Zingali, 87, of Bradford, died peacefully on Sunday, July 2, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lawrence on December 13, 1929 and was the son of the late Frank and Lena (Strano) Zingali.

During the Korean War, Zingali served as a First Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy, where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

A graduate of MIT, Zingali was employed as an engineer at the former Western Electric where he was one of the first to earn their Engineering Excellence Award. He was a member of the MVFCU Board of Directors for 36 years.

A longtime member of Haverhill’s St. John the Baptist Parish, Zingali enjoyed spending his summers at Salisbury Beach, playing cards and spending time with his family. He did not have a Facebook account.

His survivors include his wife of 55 years Maryanne (Cortese) Zingali of Bradford; two daughters Debra M. Ryan of Haverhill and her companion Robert LaPierre, Robin Lane of Nashua, N.H.; sister Eileen Rivella of North Andover; two grandsons, Matthew Ryan and Christopher Ryan; two great grandchildren, Lidiya Ryan and Jacoby Ryan; as well as several nieces and nephews. Zingali also enjoyed a close relationship with his two sons-in-law, Jack Ryan of Haverhill and John Lane of Nashua, N.H.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Thursday, July 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral will be Friday morning, July 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St., John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill.
