Evelyn Jean Fisher Roberts, 93, Formerly with AT&T

A memorial service takes place Saturday for Evelyn Jean Fisher Roberts, formerly of Haverhill, who died in April.

Roberts, 93, died peacefully April 28, at Herrin Hospital, Herrin, Ill. Her husband Bronson, daughters Diane and Gail (Roberts) Pierce, son-in-law Greg Pierce, brother, Everett predeceased her.

Born May 21, 1924 in Boston, daughter of George H. and Marion P. (Godfrey) Fisher, she graduated Haverhill High School in 1942 and began work as a telephone operator with AT&T. On May 22, 1950, she married Bronson L. Roberts, settling initially in Salisbury, and then moving to Costa Mesa, Calif., in 1960. They returned to Haverhil in 1969, at which time Evelyn returned to a career with AT&T. After retiring from AT&T in 1986, she relocated to Clearwater, Fla., where she served several years as the secretary of the Sunshine Terrace Condominium Association. In 1999, she relocated with her daughter, Jean to Martinsburg, W.V., and then Carbondale, Ill. She was a longtime member of the White Shrine, Eastern Star and proud to be a minuteman in the Daughters of the American Revolution.

An accomplished singer since High School, Roberts participated in many events during her early career with AT&T and was a featured soloist as a member of the First Baptist Church of Haverhill choir and at many nuptials in the New England area. Always ready for any experience and adventure, she loved to travel, visit historic sites and amusement parks (Disney was a favorite), was an avid reader and loved watching her favorite team, the New England Patriots. One of her favorite activities was to help the Marine Corps League Auxiliary cut out coupons to send to our overseas military and their families.

She is remembered by daughter, LCDR Jean L. Roberts-Houle, USN, NC, retired and spouse HMC Gene Houle, USNR, retired of Carbondale, Ill.; son, Scott Roberts of Haverhill; granddaughter Christine L. (Houle) Arms and spouse MKC Richard Arms, USCG; great grandson Brandon; great granddaughter Marissa, of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; grandson, Daniel Bronson Houle, of Carbondale, Ill.; sister-in-law, Virginia Fisher of The Villages, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, June 24, at 4 p.m., at Dole, Childs and Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill.
