Police: Speed a Factor in Andover Crash That Killed 27-Year-Old

Massachusetts State Police believe speed was a factor in Tuesday’s Andover crash that took the life of a 27-year-old Manchester, N.H., man.

A 2009 Ford Focus was traveling along I-93 southbound just before 6:30 p.m., when it rear ended a state Department of Transportation help van flatbed tow truck in the left travel lane before exit 44, according to a preliminary investigation by Trooper Jared Clemenzi of the Andover Barracks. The help van was assisting with a minor crash in the left lane of the highway.

The driver, Shannon Jackson, was taken to Boston Medical Center by Lifeflight where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the help van was uninjured.

“The cause of the crash remains under investigation but speed is believed to be a factor,” a report said.

Clemenzi is being assisted by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Also assisting on scene were members of Andover Fire and EMS, Methuen Rescue and Massachusetts DOT.
