John Daniel Caron, 77, longtime North Andover resident and former owner of N. Power O’Connor Funeral Home in Haverhill, died last Thursday evening at Holy Family Hospital-Methuen, with his family at his side. He was the husband of Mary (Moynihan) Caron, his wife of 27 years.
Born in North Andover,May 5, 1940, he was the son of the late R. George and Dorothy (Sullivan) Caron and brother of the late Charlotte (Caron) Gioia. He was a graduate of North Andover High School in 1957 and New England Institute of Anatomy in September, 1960. Caron received a diploma in Sanitary Science, Embalming, and Funeral Directing.
A longtime respected funeral director in North Andover and Haverhill, he began his career with his father at the R. George Caron Funeral Home of North Andover. Later he became affiliated with N. Power O’Connor Funeral Home. He continued his business in North Andover as the owner of the Caron Funeral Home. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Jackson Club and Men of Merrimack. Caron helped found the Andover/North Andover YMCA. As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Haverhill Country Club. He and his wife enjoyed vacationing in Kennebunkport, Maine every summer.
Caron is survived by his brother-in-law, James Gioia of North Andover; nephew, James Gioia and wife Isobel Burke of Methuen; nieces, Jane Santo and husband Joseph of Bradford,
Kathleen Barrett and husband Michael and Sharon Arnold and husband Steven all of North Andover, along with several grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family members and dear friends.
His family thanks the staff of Cedar View Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and Holy Family Hospital for his care.
Calling hours are Wednesday, June 7, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30, at St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, with burial in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover.
