Labor Leaders, Legislators to Support Boilermakers at Friday Rally

Union workers, locked out of their jobs at Westinghouse Electric for more than a week, will be joined by New Hampshire legislators at a solidarity rally Friday at the plant.

About 175 employees, including several in Greater Haverhill, of the Newington, N.H., nuclear components manufacturer, were locked out May 21 after contract negotiations broke down. Westinghouse said it issued a lockout notice as a result of “a stalemate in negotiations” between the company and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers.

“These workers are now without health care or a source of income. Their families are facing a type of economic uncertainty that we all fear. These employees deserve to be treated fairly and to be bargained with in good faith,” said a statement from the New Hampshire AFL-CIO.

Friday’s rally in support of Boilermakers Local 651 takes place Friday, 12:30 p.m., at along the Westinghouse picket line, 178 Shattuck Way, Newington, N.H.
