John Gordon Williams, 87, Founded Gas Associates

John_WilliamsJohn Gordon Williams, 87, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully May 11, at Lawrence General Hospital.

Williams was born in Haverhill Sept. 5, 1929, son of Andrew and Edna (McInnis) Williams and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1948. He founded his own heating and air conditioning business, Gas Associates, in 1984. Prior to starting his own business, Williams had a successful sales career with Bryant-Carrier Corporation, where he won multiple national sales awards.

He loved skiing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, camping with his family in their RV on Cape Cod, vacationing in the Bahamas and wintering with wife Phyllis in Fort Myers, Fla. His most treasured moments were time spent with his family at home and at his summer home on Province Lake in Effingham, N.H.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Ann (Ball), as well as his children and grandchildren, including daughters Linda Williams and husband Dennis Meehan of Nashua, N.H., Diane Hartmann of Atkinson, N.H.; sons, Philip and wife Brenda of Haverhill, Steven and wife Dawn of Haverhill, John and wife Kathy of Windham, N.H.; 13 grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Melissa, Matthew, Amanda, Liana, Lauren, David, Nicole, Ashley, Jay, Allison and Greg; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Elizabeth, Katie and Dustin; sister, Norma Riley and brother James Williams, both of Haverhill; and his dog Goldie.  Williams was predeceased by his son-in-law, Jack Hartmann, and his siblings, Catherine Cashman, Robert Williams and Richard Williams.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Monday, May 15, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Tuesday morning at 9 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m., at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial follows in Newton Highlands Cemetery, Highland Street, Newton, N.H.
