Trooper Injured After Being Struck by Allegedly Drunken Driver

A Massachusetts State Police trooper was injured Thursday night when his cruiser was allegedly struck by a four-time drunken driver on I-495 in Methuen.

The trooper was taken to Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, for treatment of minor injuries, while the driver of a 2005 Cadillac Escalade, Joseph Doiron, 59, of North Andover, was arrested. The crash took place about 8 p.m., on I-495 southbound just before exit 45. The unidentified trooper was working a road construction detail.

Doiron was charged with driving under the influence of liquor, fourth offense; driving so as to endanger; failure to stay within marked lanes; having an open container of alcohol; and speeding. he was taken to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and is expected to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court at a later date.

State Police were assisted on scene by Methuen Fire and EMS.
