Haverhill Opens Compost Center for the Season

There may still be some lingering snow on the ground, but Haverhill’s compost center, accepting leaves, grass and brush, is open for the season.

Materials may be dropped off at the Highway Department, 500 Primrose St. Grass and leaves are accepted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Brush may be left Wednesdays, from 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Grass and leaves should be free of trash and debris and may be dumped loosely or in biodegradable paper bags. All plastic bags must be emptied and removed from the site.

The cost for disposal is $45 annually through the purchase of a sticker or $9 per day. Residents 65 or older pay a reduced fee of $30 for an annual sticker.
