Stella M. (Paone) Macek, 90, passed peacefully Monday morning, April 3, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill. She was the wife of the late John E. Macek, who died March 8, 1998.
Born in Spangler, Pennsylvania, April 13, 1926, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Anthony and Genevieve (Tito) Paone. Macek worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in Haverhill and Lawrence. She retired from a job she loved at Haverhill’s Concord Printing Company, that was owned and operated by her nephew, the late Robert A. Cunningham. She dedicated much of her time to serving veterans and others, as a member of Amvets Auxiliary Post 147, Haverhill. Her services included holding various local and state office positions. She was also a longtime, active member of St. James Church in Haverhill where she enjoyed many years singing with the church choir.
She leaves her only child, son, City Councilor William J. Macek and his wife, Maria J. (DiPirro) of Haverhill; grandsons, Daniel C. Macek and wife, Amber of Lyndonville, Vt., and Nicholas A. Macek of West Hollywood, Calif.; great-grandson Greyson C. Macek and step-great-grandchildren, Haleigh B. and Ashton T. Gould of Lyndonville, Vt.; niece, Joy Ann (Cunningham) Piecuch and husband David of Haverhill; nephews, Chuck and Stephen Paone along with grandnieces Monica Piecuch and Laura Piecuch Muzykoski, her husband, Joseph and their son David; along with other grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Visiting hours at the Monument Square Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, are Thursday, April 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitation Friday, April 7, will be at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m., at St. James Church, 185 Winter St., Haverhill. At the family’s request burial will be private.
