A 26-year-old Lawrence man is facing charges of trafficking more than 100 grams of heroin that, Andover police said Monday, was sold from a hotel room where two children were also present.

Police said Chay Jomar Gonzalez-Mendez, 26, was also charged Saturday with use of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm without a license, carrying an unsecured firearm, wanton or reckless behavior to a child and receiving stolen property valued at more than $250.

Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe said detectives, with assistance from Tewksbury Police Detectives, responded to reports of narcotics being sold at a hotel on River Road in Andover. They obtained a search warrant.

“While executing the search warrant, detectives found a loaded Glock semi-automatic handgun, more than 100 grams of heroin and $1,000 cash. A check on the gun determined that it had been stolen from Manchester, N.H. in 2012,” the chief said.

During the investigation, detectives found two juveniles, ages 14 and 17.

“This is a great example of teamwork between law enforcement agencies and street-level detective work that was executed in a methodical and professional manner, ultimately removing a dangerous drug dealer from our community,” Keefe said.

Gonzalez-Mendez was arraigned Monday in Lawrence District Court.
