William “Bill” Kacher, 84, Worked at State DEP

William “Bill” Kacher, 84, of Newburyport and formerly of Haverhill, passed away at his home after a period of declining health, surrounded by family.

Born in Haverhill Aug. 14, 1932, he was the only son of the late John and Athena (Georges) Kacherumbas. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Brewster Academy, University of Vermont and Suffolk University in Boston, where he received his MBA. He also earned a certificate at MIT in Cambridge, of which he was extremely proud. Kacher served in the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C., and Germany, and later worked for several years at Raytheon. He spent most of his professional life with Avco-Textron as an administrative director, finishing his career with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. He loved antiquing, travel, sunny days and all Boston sports team, particularly the Red Sox.

He leaves his wife of 29 years, Andrea Jones; four daughters, Angela Ackroyd, Susan Boudreau and her husband George, Eleni Kacher, and Georgia Kacher all of Newburyport; three grandsons, Billy Boudreau, Patrick Boudreau and Cuyler Ackroyd, along with many dear friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ingrid McSweeney of Fairbanks, Alaska, and his son-in-law, Randy Ackroyd of Newburyport.

Visiting hours at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, are Saturday, March 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services follow at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Harris St., Newburyport, at 4 p.m. Private burial is at Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport.
