Anthony Anzaldi, 88, Navy Veteran, Served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

Anthony_AnzaldiAnthony “Tony” Anzaldi, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Anzaldi was born in Lawrence July 1, 1928. He had a humble Italian immigrant upbringing where he learned the language of the “Old Country” and the meaning of hard work. His early years found him in the Navy, stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, post World War II, where he formed an affinity for Latin music and Rumba dancing. He worked at Lucent Technologies for many years until his retirement. Raising a family and building a home was the most important thing to him in the following years, where he followed his passion for gardening and landscaping. His family life and marriage to Ida for more than 60 years was filled with great times at home and at “the beach” where there was always an abundance of tremendous food and lots of great memories.

He was the husband of the late Ida (LaRosa) Anzaldi, who passed in 2014. His surviving family members include his children Paula Scatamacchia and husband Robert of Haverhill, Anthony “Chip” Anzaldi of Haverhill and John Anzaldi and wife Genn of Jackson, N.H.; sister Mary Atkinson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Derek Scatamacchia of Haverhill, Justin Scatamacchia and wife Cara of Atkinson, N.H., Tara Balukas and husband Shawn “Rocky” of Haverhill, Michael Scatamacchia of Haverhill, Amelia Anzaldi and Jocelyn Anzaldi of Jackson, N.H.; four great-grandchildren; dog Bianca; and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visiting hours are Thursday, March 2, at Driscoll Funeral Home 309 South Main Street, Haverhill, from 4 to 7 p.m. Services begin at 7 p.m. Burial is private. Since serving his country, Anzaldi had great concern for the country and has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Veterans Outreach, 10 Reed St., Haverhill, MA 01832.
