Daniel J. Trainor, 73, Retired from State Auditor’s Office

Daniel_TrainorDaniel J. Trainor, 73, lifelong resident of Bradford, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 24, with his wife Maureen by his side.

Trainor was born in Boston, Sept. 13, 1943, son of the late Peter and L. Marie (Donovan) Trainor. He was a graduate of Sacred Hearts School, Central Catholic High School and attended Merrimack College and the University of Maryland. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam Era. He continued his service to his country as a Navy Reservist for several years following his discharge. When he returned from the Navy, he began his working career with the American Red Cross organization as an auditor inspecting their operations in Vietnam. He then was employed by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees as an auditor out of Washington, D.C., While attending a professional conference, he met the love of his life, his wife of 38 years, Maureen (Hannam) Trainor. They settled in Bradford in his grandfather Dan Donovan’s home. He finished his career as an auditor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the State Auditor’s Office, retiring in 2009 after 30 years of service. Trainor was a lifelong member of Sacred Hearts Parish in Bradford. His activities included being involved with the Bradford Social and Athletic Club, serving as longtime treasurer of the club and a member of Christ the King Council of the Knights of Columbus, No. 5004. He enjoyed classical music and dancing; vacationing with his wife, especially cruises; and enjoyed his dogs over the years, always a Treeing Walker Coonhound. His family thanks the staff of Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital and the Merrimack Valley Hospice House for the tremendous care they gave Trainor over these past several weeks, as well as the love and support of the Parish Staff and Parishioners and friends of Sacred Hearts Church.

His surviving family members include his wife Maureen; siblings Dr. Patricia Trainor O’Malley of Bradford and Florida, and Dr. John D. Trainor of Florida; brothers in-law Douglas Hannam Jr. and wife Patricia of Worcester, Kevin Hannam of Worcester; sister in-law Margaret Ross of Nova Scotia; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Kevin Trainor and Brendan Trainor.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, March 1, at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 South Main St. (route 125), Bradford, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services begin Thursday morning in the funeral home at 10. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main St., Bradford, at 11 a.m. Interment with U.S. Navy Honors follows in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
