Shirley T. (Abate) (Cascone) Lavanga, 80, Worked for Home Health

Shirley_LavangaShirley T. (Abate) (Cascone) Lavanga, 80, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Penacook Place Nursing Home, Haverhill.

Born and raised in Lawrence, daughter of Thomas and Albina (Cronin) Abate, she attended St. Laurence O’Toole School and Lawrence High School.  She worked as a home health aide for Merrimack Valley Hospice VNA and Home Health Care as a certified nurse’s aide until her retirement in 2009.  A member of All Saints Parish, Haverhill, Lavanga enjoyed dancing, cooking, and playing poker and 45s.

The wife of the late William Cascone and the late Ernest Lavanga, she is survived by two daughters, Kathy Landry of Salem, N.H., and Paula J. Lemay and her fiancé, James Hupka of Danville, N.H.; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Patricia Abate of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Angelina “Ann” Volianites of Nashua, N.H., and Mary Stauffer of Norton; three grandchildren, Dawn, Wanda and Billie; five great grandchildren, Gregory, Hailie, Alexas, Nidia and Donald; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Stephen Cascone and a brother, Frank Abate.

Relatives and friends may call Monday, Feb. 20, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill.  Her funeral service follows at 5:15, in the funeral home.
