Police Arrest 24-Year-Old in Methuen for Andover Double Shooting

A 24-year-old Lawrence man was arrested in Methuen and charged with shooting two men Dec. 8, in Andover.

Luis Edgardo Morales Jr., 24, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of a firearm without a license, according to Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe.

Morales was arrested by Andover police detectives working with the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section. He was wanted for the double shooting at Shawsheen Plaza, 209 North Main St., Andover. Both victims were released from Lawrence General Hospital.

Morales was ordered held on $200,000 cash bail Friday in Essex County Superior Court, Salem.

Keefe thanked the public for tips and officers for their work.

“I would like to congratulate Detective Kevin Aufiero and Detective James Moses for their tireless efforts in solving this case,” said Keefe. “Strong investigative work by our detectives and partners in the State Police helped ensure that a violent fugitive was taken off the streets this week.”

Investigators said previously the victims may have been specifically targeted, but could not identify a motive.
