Family of Murder Victim Seeks Donations for Funeral

The family of a man shot and killed Thursday night in Haverhill is asking friends to help pay for funeral expenses.

Joseph Smith, 34, was shot multiple times just before 4:45 p.m., Thursday, at 25 Portland St. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Sean LaRose, 34, was charged with murder and theft of an automobile upon his arrest in Amesbury by Massachusetts State Police.

“…The Smith family lost a son, grandson, a brother, uncle, cousin, best friend, life companion. Many of you have heard Joseph life was taking by an act of selfishness,” his mother wrote on a GoFundMe.com website page. “Please help this family give Joseph the proper finally goodbye,” the appeal asks.

LaRose was arraigned Friday in Haverhill District Court. He returns to court next month for a probable cause hearing. No motive was identified.
