Rose Marie (Fortuna) Drohan, 76, Was Consentino Teacher

Rose_Marie_DrohanRose Marie (Fortuna) Drohan, 76, of Haverhill, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 6, at home.

She was born in Lawrence Nov. 6, 1940, daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Loungo Fortuna. Drohan was educated in Haverhill schools and was a graduate of U Lowell graduating with her master’s degree in education. She was a teacher at the former St. James School on Primrose Street in Haverhill and spent most of her career teaching at Consentino School from which she retired in 2004.

Drohan was a member of the former St. Rita’s Church in Haverhill. She led the Italian American singing group during the late 70s into the early 80s and took part in many performances over her teaching career. Rose coordinated the performance for Consentino School every year that included Oliver Twist, Trial by Jury and many other well known performances.

She is survived by her two sons Benjamin M. Drohan and Cristofer P. Drohan and his wife Nicole of Sandown, N.H.; two grandchildren, Alexis R. and Ryan C. Drohan; sister Mary Malegieri of Bradford; brother Joseph Barbone of Amesbury; former husband Paul Drohan of Tucson, Ariz., as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Rudy and Arthur Barbone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her funeral is Wednesday, Feb. 15, beginning at 10 a.m., from the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 11, in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Her burial is private. Contributions in her memory may be made to your local veteran’s organization.
