Groveland police have charged three men in connection with a series of recent motor vehicle break-ins.
James Ramsey, 20, of Essex, and David Tupman, 21, and Conor Brennan, 22, both of Gloucester, are charged with larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm, having a banned assault weapon and magazine, unlawful possession of ammunition, 20 counts of breaking and entering into motor vehicles at nighttime and larceny of property over $250. Groveland police obtained a search warrant for Ramsey’s Essex home Jan. 27 and retrieved the handgun stolen from Groveland.
Groveland Deputy Chief Jeffrey Gillen said the break-ins were reported in the areas of Holly Lane, Seven Star Road, Center Street, Governor’s Road, Balch Avenue and Main Street.
“In all cases, victims’ vehicles were unlocked. Residents reported that a wallet, sunglasses and a bag filled with personal items were stolen. Additionally, one resident reported that a secured lock box containing a handgun had been taken from his vehicle.”
Groveland Police received multiple calls beginning Monday, Jan. 23, from residents reporting that their vehicles had been entered and items were missing. Eyewitnesses around the time of the break-ins reported seeing a man, approximately 20 years old, entering a tan or beige Chevy Suburban with white stickers on the rear window of the driver’s side.
The next day, Wilmington police arrested the trio for breaking into motor vehicles there. The arresting officer contacted Groveland officer Christopher Ertsos, who was on duty when the break-ins occurred in Groveland. The three men used a truck, found to be registered to Ramsey, matching the description of the one seen in Groveland.
Brennan is being held on $3,000 cash bail at the Middleton House of Corrections. The other two are being held without bail.
