Richard E. Driscoll, 84, Lawyer, Teacher, Probation Officer

Richard_DriscollRichard E. Driscoll, 84, longtime resident of Haverhill and Plaistow, N.H., passed away peacefully Thursday morning, Jan. 19.

Driscoll was born in Haverhill Aug. 25, 1932, son of F. Edward and Anna (Ray) Driscoll. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1950, received his bachelor’s degree from the former Lowell State Teachers College and received his law degree from Suffolk University. His professional career included working as a fifth grade school teacher in Salem, N.H., probation officer in Haverhill District Court from 1958 through 1972 and serving as chief probation officer until beginning his private law practice, a license still held. He enjoyed teaching law for many years as an adjunct professor at both Northeastern University and Northern Essex Community College.

He was a member of the Saggahew Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Haverhill where he served as a Past Master as well as a member of the Shriners organization. He served as town treasurer for Salem, N.H., and was a board member for Golden Hill Association in Plaistow, N.H., a community he was very proud of. He was also the owner and publisher of the Bingo Bugle newspaper in New Hampshire, which he owned for 27 years. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Clearwater Beach, Fla., for several years.

Driscoll’s surviving family members include his wife Joyce (Comley) of Plaistow, N.H.; children Richard Driscoll of Groveland, Patricia Walker and husband Matthew of Newburyport, Lynne Tabak of Lynn and Shelly Gosselin and husband Steve of Haverhill and Dana Connolly of Florida; grandson Maxwell Walker; and brother Robert Driscoll and wife Marie of Haverhill.

A celebration of hiss life takes place Saturday, Jan. 28, at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 South Main St., Haverhill, from 1 to 4 p.m. Masonic service is at 3:30 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
