Early Morning, Salem Street Accident Snarls Traffic

A driver was reportedly injured early this morning on Salem Street when she crossed the dividing line and collided with a Mack truck.

The accident, which resulted in the rupture of fuel and hydraulic tanks on the truck, took place around 7 a.m., near 263 Salem St., according to Lt. Robert P. Pistone, police spokesman, after his review of a preliminary report. The car’s front end was heavily damaged. There was no information on the condition of the driver as of news deadline.

A reported cleanup of spilled fuel snarled traffic on the busy roadway.

Commenters on social media erroneously reported a child, walking to school, had been struck by a car. “We have no information,” said Haverhill School Superintendent James F. Scully after he checked with the department’s busing coordinators.
