Donald W. Thompson, 83, Worked in Transportation

Donald_ThompsonDonald W. Thompson, 83, of Haverhill, husband of the late Rosemarie (Ham) Thompson, passed away Jan. 17, at Merrimack Valley Hospice, Haverhill, surrounded by his family.

Born in North Andover, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Spence) Thompson. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School. Thompson was employed at the former Hub Transportation Company, Haverhill, and the former Haverhill – Lawrence Transportation as a truck driver. He was also employed at the Graf Brothers Trucking in Haverhill. After retirement he worked at the Pare’s Liquor Store in Haverhill. He was a trustee for the Teamsters Union, Local 437. He was a simple man, family was his life. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking rides to Salisbury Beach and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox.

Thompson is survived by his children, Donald Thompson of Bradford, Kathleen Duston of Bradford, and John Thompson and his wife Donna of Newburyport; brother, Douglas Thompson and his wife Natalie; sister, Margaret Etter of Haverhill; five grandchildren, Melanie Fuller, Thomas Duston, Casey Thompson, Erin Bertrand, Kimberly Kimball; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son Robert Thompson, daughter in law, Patricia Thompson, son in law Albert Duston and his siblings, Marjorie Boudreau, June Kennedy, William Thompson, Kenneth Thompson and Warren Thompson.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at  Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 20, at noon, in the funeral home. Burial follows in Elmwood Cenetery, Salem Street, Bradford.
