The family of a 15-year-old boy, struck by a car Thursday morning, said the boy suffered severe facial injuries, broken bones and torn ligaments, among other injuries. They are seeking help paying for his care and rehabilitation.

Sean Bresnahan suffers from a broken shoulder blade, shinbone and fibula—the bone between the knee and ankle—and torn ligaments. He is now at Tufts Medical Center, Boston. Bresnahan was struck just before 7 a.m., Thursday, near Buttonwoods Museum, Water Street. Police said he went through the windshield of a 1999 Honda Civic, driven by an 18-year-old Haverhill resident.

“Due to this accident Sean will have a very long road to recover,” writes Jennifer Brown a friend of the family, on the fundraising website, GoFundMe. As of Sunday night, about $7,500 had been collected toward a $10,000 goal. “Please keep Sean in your thoughts and Prayers during this difficult time. As you can imagine the cost to care for Sean will add up quickly.”

Bresnahan, a sophomore at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, was crossing Water Street on the way to his bus stop. No charges have been filed against the driver as of news deadline.
