Penacook Place to Join with Tewksbury-Based Covenant Health

The city’s only nonprofit nursing home, Penacook Place, is joining forces with Tewksbury-based Covenant Health.

Covenant, which describes itself as a “Catholic regional health delivery network,” plans to make property improvements and invest in operations while maintaining the Penacook Place name. The arrangement is subject to governmental approval.

“Our overriding commitment is to assure that the tremendous asset that is Penacook Place remains in our community for a sustainable future,” said Penacook board President Thomas L. Mortimer. “Covenant, like Penacook, is a not-for-profit healthcare provider, and has a long track record of exceptional community-based elder care services.”

Penacook Place, 150 Water St., was founded in 1969 as Union Mission Nursing Home. It is a 160-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.

David R. Lincoln, president/CEO of Covenant Health, said his organization has previously provided Penacook with management and consulting services.

“During this time, the staff, management and leadership of Penacook Place have developed strong working relationships with their counterparts at Covenant Health. We are pleased that this history has culminated in Penacook’s decision to become a member organization.”

Covenant owns, manages or is otherwise affiliated with nursing homes in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Its nearest member is Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services of Lawrence.
