A musical celebration of freedom, faith and inspiration, in honor of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place Friday, Jan. 13.
The annual service by Temple Emanu- El, in partnership with Calvary Baptist Church, Haverhill, is conducted by Rabbi Ira L. Korinow and Cantor Vera Broekhuysen, both of Temple Emanu-El. Members of the Greater Haverhill Clergy Association will also participate.
“Dr. King’s message of human equality and engaged pluralism remains as urgent and apposite today as when he first affirmed that people must ‘not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character,’” a statement reads.
The service follows the weekly Sabbath liturgy Friday, Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Temple, 514 Main St., Haverhill. It includes selected readings from the writings of Dr. King. The Temple Emanu-El Choir, conducted by Cantor Vera Broekhuysen; Calvary Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir, under the direction of Music Minister Joe DeVoe; and Bradford Christian Academy High School Choir, under the direction of Gina McKeown, presents musical selections.
The service will be followed by an Oneg Shabbat (social hour). Services are open to the public.
