Haverhill police are searching for at least one suspect connected to armed robberies Wednesday and Dec. 19 at Hilldale Convenience in the Lafayette Square area and a robbery at Subway Restaurant, 741 S. Main St., in October.
Police responded Wednesday at 6:39 p.m. to Hilldale Convenience, 66 Hilldale Ave., on a report that a masked man armed with a large pocket knife held up a male cashier. The suspect demanded, “Give me the money,” several times and walked around the counter toward the cash register, according to a police report obtained by WHAV. The suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of money, while the cashier handed him the register drawer, police said. The suspect left the store and was last seen headed toward Lafayette Street.
Haverhill Officer Branden Sheehy said police checked the area without success. Officers received “be on the lookout” alerts in their cruisers, Sheehy wrote in an incident report. Portions of the officer’s report, including identities, were blacked out by police before its release.
The suspect was described as a white male with medium build, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a black mask over his head and mouth, dark jacket, gray pants and possibly gloves.
At the same store, on Dec. 19 shortly before midnight, a man armed with a knife reportedly approached two clerks.
“The suspect made the victims shut off the alarm and demanded money from the register,” according to the police report. The suspect, wearing a black hooded coat, bandanna and dark jeans, again headed onto Lafayette Street and was not found during a police search.
Police continue to investigate an armed robbery at Subway restaurant, 741 S. Main St., on Oct. 25, in which a man wearing dark clothing showed an unopened folding knife and told a female clerk to open the cash drawer and give him all the money.
The employee described the suspect as a white male, 35 to 45 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, about 220 pounds with balding or shaved head. According to a police report, she said he wore a black long sleeved shirt with unknown writing on sleeve, faded ripped blue jeans, brown shoes, black gloves, black hat and black rag over his face.
As in the Hilldale Convenience robberies, a description was relayed to area officers, but no one was found.
The restaurant owner, meanwhile, told police he was in a back room during the robbery and did not know what had happened until the suspect, who he said claimed to have a gun, had left.
